Chai inspired french toast

This chai spiced French toast is a flavorful twist on a classic breakfast dish. It's made with thick slices of bread soaked in a mixture of soy milk and warm spices like cardamom, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Serve it with a sprinkle of powdered sugar and a side of fresh fruit for a delicious and satisfying meal.

Method:
  1. To a mixing bowl, combine the milk, all-purpose flour, maple syrup, cinnamon, nutmeg, clove, cardamom and vanilla extract.  

  2. Dunk the slices of bread in the bowl, ensuring it is completely covered. 

  3. On medium heat, to a large pan, cook each slice of the toast for around 5 minutes. Note if you are not using a non-stick pan, feel free to add 1 tsp of olive oil. 

  4. Flip the bread after ~5 minutes or until lightly golden brown and crispy. 

  5. Serve with the berries and sprinkled icing sugar.

Note:

  • Vitasoy Soy milk - If not using this brand, please ensure the milk is calcium-fortified and contains 120 mg of calcium per 100ml. Moreover, suppose you are allergic or prefer different plant-based alternatives. In that case, you can always use another type of milk, given it is calcium-fortified.
  • Unbleached all-purpose flour - If you are clinically required to be strictly gluten-free, please swap the flour for 1:1 gluten-free baking flour.

  • Maple syrup - If you are not vegan, you can use honey.

  • Whole grain bread -The staler the bread, the better. Additionally, if you are clinically required to be strictly gluten-free, please swap the bread for gluten-free bread.
